Do I need my own van?
- Yes, you will need your own van and it needs to be suitable for gravel roads. It also should have its own water tanks and bathroom facilities. If your van does not have an internal shower/toilet, a portable one is fine.
Do I need a two-way radio?
- Yes, this is vital for communication as we drive. While a built-in one is preferred, you can use a portable type, either your own or we can supply a handheld at a small cost.
What tyres are recommended?
- Most 4WD’s have highway tyres with a P (passenger) rating. These are suitable for bitumen roads but can be susceptible to punctures on gravel roads. It is recommended that All-terrain tyres with a LT (Light Truck) rating are fitted to any 4WD that spends any time on gravel roads. this is especially important when towing, as this places more load on the tyres.
Are the trips family friendly?
- Yes, however family trips are best undertaken during the school holidays when there is more likelihood of other families being present.
- Note that the Goldfields Encounter has unfenced open mine shafts within walking distance of the camp and parents need to be vigilant of their children at all times.
Are pets allowed on trips?
- No, we travel through national parks and pets are banned in most of them. Additionally, many areas has 1080 baits and it is unwise to have pets in these areas.
- However, trips can be adjusted/planned to accommodate pets if there is sufficient demand.
Is there mobile reception?
There is Telstra reception in most of the areas we travel, but this can be hit and miss. Our vehicles are fitted with high gain antennas and we have coverage the vast majority of the time. Reception with other brand mobile providers is very patchy.
We carry a PLB (Personal Locator Beacon) in the event of any major issue if we are not in mobile range at the time.
Can we organise a personal trip or a private group booking?
- Yes, we can accommodate various types of requests and trip destinations.
